Turtle

Our backyard has apparently become a popular place for snapping turtles. We have had three of them this past month. They aren't very nice (one walked right over and snapped my tomato plants in half!) Another one appeared tonight after a rainy day.

Fathers Day

Sewing

Emelyn has been spending some time with MaeMae this week both learning to sew and helping organize VBS crafts. She kept saying she was just learning to sew straight lines... well yesterday she came home with these two dresses... THAT SHE MADE!!!!

Little Rock

Today we went to Conway to see Andrew and Abbie and together we went into Little Rock to visit the State Capital building. Afterwards we went to eat lunch on the river followed by a tour of the Old State Capital Museum. While there, we unexpectedly watched the Miss Arkansas parade (the pageant was in the building next door!) After learning a lot about Arkansas's history we went back to Andrew and Abbie's to swim until supper. All in all, it was a fun, educational and relaxing day!

Ruth biking

We've been trying to get Ruth to ride her bike more which has been a painfully slow process. She's scared to go at any speed for fear of falling and it seemed she would never take the risk and try. There have been many tears from her... and so much encouraging and praise to get her to just try.

Well yesterday something clicked. She had her yearly shots in the afternoon (3 of them and she didn't jump or even cry - such a brave girl!!) Then when we got home I asked if she'd please try riding down the street and back again just to try... and she did that...and more.

Riding was all she wanted to do ALL DAY TODAY. And she was a rockstar!! Just tonight after supper she rode close to 4 miles in our neighborhood and was all smiles! And boy do I love that sweet smile. She is so proud of herself and so are we!!

Field Day

The last day of school was May 30th and the kids had a blast playing with their friends. They also had an award ceremony and Emelyn was recognized as the top reader in her class AND all of second grade!

Graduation

Museum Day

Today turned out to be a rainy day here so we decided to find some indoor things to do off of our bucket list... visit new museums! We went to the History of Native American Museum and then later the Walmart Museum. The Native American museum was full of neat artifacts and history on various tribes. At the end the kids got to search for and keep an arrowhead. As we were leaving we decided to drive through the town square and saw the original Walton 5-10 and went in. It was a neat museum of the history of Sam Walton and Walmart and ended with a cute old-fashioned soda shop where we sat at the counter and ate some yummy treats. (This first picture is what the kids were doing on this rainy day before we left - Emelyn reading and Isaiah and Ruth jumping in their "pillow pool.")
